The Gospel of Restoration

Below is a great example from Nicole on how her community group brought restoration to a local family.

Hello all,
I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting things about our Community group recently.  For the past month or so we had been praying as a group about ways that we could do something as a group to bless someone or a family. We had tossed  around and prayed about a few ideas.

During our discussions at Community group the Lord had placed a family on my heart  that had moved into my apartment complex in January. They have 2 girls ages 5 and 7. I wasn't sure about what their need was yet so I took some time to get to know them and found out that the Dad/Husband had fallen off of a 25 foot ladder at work, crushed his arm and had surgery on his arm so he could not work. In fact, it is going to be at least another 6 months  or so until he will be strong enough to work again. The wife has been struggling with taking care of his needs and the family's along with working to provide for them.

Our community group began praying for them and I began spending more time with them. One of our group members suggested one night that we put together Easter Baskets along with an invitation to our Easter Service and give it to them to bless them.  Everyone got to work. We used our resources and time to put together a beautiful basket and care package for them with clothes, gift cards, etc. Some of the kids in our group even made little cards for their girls.  The Orange County Rescue Mission also donated a box of food.

I picked up the "goodies" from the Carringelas on Thursday evening and on Friday morning (Good Friday) I placed everything on their door step.  I could hear the girls excitement as they opened the door that morning.

Later that evening the mom asked me to come over (I never said who it was from but they recognized Samantha's writing on one of the homemade cards for the girls). They were so happy and grateful and said " You know, we know there are a lot of people worse off than us so I just try to make the best of it, it is really nice to be thought of. " I explained to them that we had been praying for them and we just wanted to bless them.

I can only hope and pray now that this blessing for them will be more than just "gifts" and open their hearts to the Love of Jesus and who we are at VCI. Maybe they will come to church some time soon! Who knows, but we will keep praying!

In Christ,
Nicole Cannone
