Village Kids: Why We Serve

SocialVKSP_MeganFoster

If you are new to Village Church, or if you have been here for awhile, you have probably noticed that God has graced our church with an abundance of kids. That makes Village Kids an incredibly vital and important ministry of our church.

Our goal for Village Kids is to provide a safe, fun, clean, and loving environment so that kids can hear the Gospel truths. Ultimately, we desire for these kids to become disciples of Jesus at an early age.

Proverbs 22:6 says, "train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." A study indicates that around 64% of believers come to know Jesus before the age of 18. When thinking about our desire to train a child up in the Lord, as it states in Proverbs, we are gifted with an amazing opportunity to disciple these kids to Jesus so that they will follow Him all of their life. We want our kids to be a part of that percentage.

We have over 75 people who joyfully serve in Village Kids. They pour a lot of time and energy into serving our kids well. This volunteer team is given around an hour and fifteen minutes to point our kids to Jesus. In the midst of cleaning of goldfish, playground time, and playdoh this team knows that they are planting seeds of the Gospel in these little hearts. That’s a BIG DEAL!!!

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing stories of why our volunteers serve. This will give you a picture into what fuels our volunteers to serve and will also reflect the heart of this ministry. We would love for you to prayerfully consider joining our team in serving our church family in this way. Here Megan Foster, the Sunday volunteer coordinator, shares why she is a Village Kids Volunteer:

Crying babies. Sticky toddlers. Rambunctious preschoolers. Antsy kids. Who wants to spend 90 minutes of their Sunday morning with these special people? I do! I count it a blessing to serve alongside a tireless, joy-filled team on Sunday mornings serving the kids and families of the Village Church.

So why do I serve? I love kids. I love watching a wobbler go from unsteady steps to running around on the playground. I love watching the relationships grow between faithful leaders and kids who are shy (or downright unhappy) to be in Sunday school for an hour away from their parents. I love watching the older kids worship the Lord through songs and hand motions. I love hearing a kindergartener’s 5-minute rendition of taking their dog for a walk. I love seeing the leaders pray over the kids and families of this church.

You see, kids are the future. In today’s vastly unsteady world of politics, finances, and international conflicts, I sometimes feel a bit hopeless/helpless about where the world is headed. But then God graciously reminds me that He is above it all, and the best way to change the world is to let the little ones come to Jesus. Because a generation of disciples who are on fire to DECLARE the truth about Jesus, TRAIN one another to Jesus, SERVE people like Jesus, and PLANT churches where people need Jesus is how we change the world.

Serving in kids’ ministry may not be the easiest calling, but it’s fun and joy-filled; and while we’re at it, we’re changing the world.

If this excites you, we would love for you to join us!
